4 Signs That You Need New Home Windows

If you notice your energy bills rising for no apparent reason, it may be because you need new home windows!

Just like everything else in the home, windows always require maintenance and may eventually need to be replaced. Windows are a very important element of the home because they protect it from the outdoors, improve your curb appeal, and allow natural light to come in. However, if your home windows are in bad shape, they aren’t able to do their job correctly. Here are four signs that you may need new home windows.

Higher Energy Bills

If you notice that your energy bills are higher than normal and nothing has changed, you might want to check your home windows. A good way to test this is to stand by your window on a cold winter day. If it feels cooler than the rest of the home and if the glass is cold to the touch, there is a draft getting through and it’s not insulating your home properly. You want to replace these windows with ones that will increase your energy efficiency.

Decay & Leaks

This is one of the more obvious signs that you need to replace your home windows. Check the frame of your window for decay. Wooden frames tend to warp when they are exposed to moisture for long periods of time. Water damage will make it harder to open and close the windows and can lead to more decay as time goes on. If you notice that the window is leaking water, that is a sure sign that you need a replacement and you should do it as soon as possible.

Soundproof

Windows should also help to keep the sounds of the outdoors to a minimum. If you stand by your window and notice that you can hear it coming all the way down the street, then it may be time for an upgrade. Energy efficient home windows will also help to keep sound out by absorbing the sound waves before they get inside of the home.

Condensation

It is normally for some condensation to appear on your windows from rain and foggy weather. However, if you notice that fog and condensation accumulate on your windows on a regular basis, then it may be a cause for concern. If the condensation is appearing between the two panes of glass, that means the seals on your windows have failed and will eventually lead to leaks.
