Proper Upkeep Guide for Residential Window Film

Here is how you can keep your window film in good condition.

A great addition to any home, window film can protect you and your house from sun exposure while also giving you many other benefits, even including lowering energy bills. But the value of window film depends on it being properly taken care of. While window film is pretty low maintenance, it’s important to keep certain things in mind. Here is how you can keep your window film in good condition.

The Curing Process

After your window film is first installed, it will need time to cure properly, which can take at least two or three days. During the curing process, window film is especially vulnerable to scratching. This is because there is a moisture lawyer between the window film and the window, and it won’t completely adhere until it has time to dry. You should avoid touching it until it is completely dry, and you should never clean window film while it is still curing. It is normal for your window film to look a little hazy at first while it is curing, so don’t be concerned. Of course, you can always call if your film still doesn’t look right after a few days.

How to Clean

After you give your window film at least a week to make sure that it is fully cured, then you can prepare to clean it. Window film is very simple to clean because it usually doesn’t get very dirty. You can wipe off dust with a dry microfiber cloth on most days. If you need to give it a deeper cleaning, remember to be as gentle as possible. You can use foaming, ammonia-free window cleaners, soft cloths, and a squeegee with a soft rubber edge. Make sure when using a squeegee that you don’t press down’ too firmly because you might damage your film.

Damaged Window Film

With proper care, it isn’t likely that window film will get damaged. The signs of damage on window film are scratches and chipping. However, it’s important to remember that there is no way to repair damaged window film and it will have to be replaced. Depending on the type of window film you choose, you can usually expect there to be a warranty for replacement within a certain period of time. But it’s best to prevent damage because window film in its best condition can last a lifetime.
