The eyes are surely the window into the soul, but only if you keep that window clean. Your residential windows should be cleaned at least twice a year to avoid excessive dirt build up. Here’s how you can do it in three easy steps.
First, Wash With a Strip Applicator
You can purchase a window cleaning solution or make your own by squirting dishwashing liquid into a bucket of warm water. The long cloth head of a strip applicator soaks up enough soapy water to knock dirt loose without scratching the glass.
Second, Wipe Clean
Use a squeegee to wipe the window clean. Start at the top left of the window, and pull the squeegee over the soapy pane in a reverse-S pattern. At the end of each stroke, wipe the squeegee blade clean with a rag.
Third, Dry the Drips
It’s important to remove any water that remains on the edge of the glass with a damp chamois. This soaks up the remaining wetness without leaving any streaks. Afterward, dry the windowsill with a rag.
Cleaning Panel Windows
If you need to clean divided, or panel windows, you need a squeegee that fits the panes. You can purchase a separate squeegee or simply modify your squeegee by cutting off a few inches of each side. Follow the same steps above to wash your windows!
