The summer is finally here and that means the weather is heating up. It can be very costly to run your air conditioner at high levels all day long. It’s good to know other ways to keep your house cool when it starts to get really hot. Here are some tips for keeping your house cool on those hot summer days.
Cooking
One thing that can really contribute to the heat in your home is turning the stove and oven on. However, we have to eat regardless of how hot it may get. A good way to keep it cool when cooking is to keep the lids on your pots to reduce the amount of heat that gets out. You can also use the bent from your microwave to help cool things down. Checking the oven by turning on the light rather than opening it will also keep some of that heat contained. If you have an outdoor grill, it’s a great idea to cook your meals outside to eliminate the heat build up altogether.
Window Tinting
Though it will be an investment in the beginning, window tinting is a great way to keep your house cool on those hot summer days. Window tinting still allows natural light to come into your home, but protects it from the harsh UV rays and excess sun exposure that will come in with regular windows. Window tinting not only keeps your home cool, but it also protects your furniture from sun damage.
Turn Off Electronics
You would be surprised just how much heat can be generated from electronics like computers TV’s, and game systems. When you aren’t using electronic devices, be sure to turn them off or even unplug them to ensure that no heat is being produced. A good way to do this is to plug all of your electronics into a surge protector and then turn off the protector when you aren’t using the devices.
