4 Signs that You Need New Home Windows

If you notice that your energy bills have been higher than normal without a good explanation, it may be time for new home windows.

Your home windows are important for protecting your home from the various elements and also allowing air in on those warmer, stuffy days. However, just like any other household object, your windows will eventually need to replaced due to natural wear and tear. Here are four signs that you need new home windows.

High Energy Bills

One of the more subtle signs that you may need new home windows is a sudden increase in your energy bills. While you may not initially equate a higher energy bill to old windows, that may just be the perfect fix for the problem. If you stand next to your closed window and it feels significantly cooler than the rest of the home, this means that there is a draft coming in and this shouldn’t be the case. The warm air from your heating unit is being cooled down once it gets close to your window, which wastes your heat and in turn increases your energy bill.

Operation

Windows that are in good shape are going to openly and close with ease. If you notice that opening your home windows requires extra force or pressure, it may be time to get new ones. This is also true if your windows are painted shut, which tends to be a problem with wood windows.

Decay & Leaks

A decaying window frame is one of the more obvious signs that you need new home windows. Wooden window frames will be exposed to moisture over time, causing them to eventually decay. In addition to this, old windows may begin to leak as well, which is another clear sign that they need to be replaced. You want to look into new windows once you notice either one of these signs because not fixing them can lead to more costly damage in the future.

Condensation

Not all condensation on your windows is bad, but sometimes foggy windows can be a cause for concern. You want to look for condensation between the two panes of glass in your window, which is a sign that your window seals are failing. If there is condensation in that area, it is time for some new home windows.
