The right amount of maintenance to your window film will make sure that it stays looking nice for years. But when it comes to cleaning your window film, there is definitely a right and wrong way to go about it. The following tips will help you make sure that you get your window film clean without accidentally damaging it.
First of all, you should avoid any type of harsh materials or cleaners that would potentially scratch or tear your window film. An example of window cleaning materials is harsh chemicals and abrasive scrubbers. But something as simple as a paper towel is still too rough for wiping your window film. You should limit all of your tools to microfiber cloths, a soft-edged squeegee such as rubber, and baby shampoo. It’s recommended that you buy a couple of empty plastic spray bottles as well, and those can be found at any store for very cheap.
Start by mixing a dilution in one of your spray bottles of water and just a scant few drops of baby shampoo. You should always use distilled water because tap water will leave mineral buildup on your window film. If you want, you can also fill another spray bottle with just the distilled water for rinsing later. Pick a time of day, such as the evening, where your window film has had time to cool off from the sun, which will further prevent tearing.
Spray a light, even layer of your shampoo mixture over the window film. Very gently wipe over it with the cloth, but don’t scrub, to loosen the dirt. Then gently squeegee over the area in vertical strokes. Spray the window film again with your rinse water and repeat the process. You can repeat this until you are happy with how your window film looks. But make sure to wipe up any excess water that has pooled on the window sill.
