Keeping windows around the house clean doesn’t need to be difficult, and there are many easy, do-it-yourself ways to get the job done. If you’re ready to stop staring through cloudy windows, here are the window cleaning tips that you need to know.
Gather the Right Equipment
First, you need to get together some basic supplies, including:
- A large dry brush or broom handle
- A bucket
- A sponge
- A squeegee
- A window cleaning solution
- Brown, plain paper or newspaper
- Microfiber cloth or rag
- Dry, lint-free cloth or dry rag
The Window Cleaning Process
Cleaning windows is fairly simple if you know how to start. First, always remove any cobwebs or built up dust from the area. Wash the window with a clean sponge and warm water. Don’t use a harsh window cleaning solution that could potentially damage the window. Wring any excess water out of the sponge before you touch the window. If there is any water left on your window, wipe it off with the clean microfiber cloth.
One of the best ways to clean windows is on a cloudy day since it will take longer for the windows to dry. Sunny days will make it easier to see dirt, but cloudy days will allow you to slowly clean up without needing to re-wet the windows. If your windows are very dirty, use borax and rinse with a mild vinegar solution. Take your time when applying the mixture and don’t be afraid to go in more than once. Once you have your windows cleaned to your liking, you can wipe everything dry with a lint-free microfiber cloth.
Once you are all done and looking to give your windows a little extra sparkle, you should grab some crumpled old newspaper. It might sound counterintuitive, but the printer ink will help to give your windows some extra shine.
