How to Clean Your Tinted Windows

How to Clean Your Tinted Windows american solar tinting

If you do not take proper care of your tinted windows, they can lose their luster

Any type of window tinting or film can enhance the beauty and appeal of your home. However, if you do not take proper care of your tinted windows, they can lose their luster. Scratched or foggy windows can look unsightly. Luckily, there are some easy ways to keep your windows clean and shining for a long time to come. Here are some easy tips to keep your tinted windows clean.

Use the Proper Cleaning Products

You should be careful of what kind of cleaning products you use on your windows. Tinted windows can easily be damaged by harsh chemicals commonly found in some cleansers. Generally, you should avoid solutions with ammonia in them. This can prove problematic since most store-bought cleaners, especially glass cleaners, contain ammonia. Ammonia-based cleaners can leave a lot of streaks on window film. Also, repeatedly using ammonia-based cleaning solutions will cause your window film’s color to fade. To maintain your windows, you should only use an ammonia-free cleaning solution.

Avoid Scratching Your Windows

One of the most important things to know about window film is that it can easily be scratched. Certain towels and even paper towels are known to scratch tinted windows. Instead of using paper towels, try using a microfiber cloth or soft sponge to wash the window. It is best to dry the window with a clean microfiber cloth or use a small rubber squeegee. If you are not sure what to use, go for the softest fabric possible and test it on the corner of the film to be sure it will not scratch before you do the entire window.

Go With the Grain

When cleaning your tinted windows, it is essential to clean in the same direction as the cut lines along the edges. For instance, you should wash horizontally at the top and bottom of the window, and while at the sides, you should clean vertically. This will ensure that the window film is kept in place and looking lovely. If you have a larger window, it may have a seam on it somewhere. In this case, keep an eye out for the possible seam as you clean the window and wash in the same direction the seam runs to avoid lifting the edge.
